Rich Paul Reflects on How Anthony Davis Injury Changes Trade Market

Everyone is wondering whether the Dallas Mavericks are going to trade Anthony Davis. The trade rumors have been going on for weeks, but it is still unclear whether the Mavs will offload their star center or hold him a little longer to see how he, Cooper Flagg, and Kyrie Irving all fit together.

Then Anthony Davis went and got injured again. This completely changed the trade market for Davis as some teams might need to rethink whether they want to trade for Davis, while he will likely miss significant time.

Rich Paul, Davis’ agent, recently discussed how the Davis injury kind of changes the trade market for his client.

“I do think when you have that trade speculation out there you have to make your mind up because sometimes when you play in traffic you get hit by a car. If you plan on trading somebody, there’s a time. It’s almost a gamesmanship to it. Your trying to go a little longer, a little longer and see the most you can get out of somebody. When you do that you run a risk — There is a world you come out of this draft with a great pick, that the following year and saying ‘wait a minute, we got these two young guys on rookie contracts that are good, you have Kyrie and AD, two top 15 players… it’s not totally negative”

It sounds like Paul doesn’t believe that the Mavericks should be quick to trade Davis anymore. Now that Davis might miss a huge chunk of the season, the Mavericks might be able to tank, develop Cooper Flagg, and reset for next season when Davis and Irving will be healthy.
