Charlotte Hornets Set To Retire The Jersey Of A Franchise Legend
Jan 14, 2026
Over their history, the Charlotte Hornets have been one of the least successful franchises in NBA history, with very few stars and even less success, especially in the NBA Playoffs, with things getting much worse in recent years. In that history, the team have retired just two numbers, one for Bill Russell (league wide) and Bobby Phills, a beloved player that tragically passed in a car crash while a member of the team.
However, they've had some solid performers since then, with many seeing former first-round pick Kemba Walker as the best player the franchise has ever seen. It's only a matter of time until his jersey is retired, but until then, they've made the official announcement to retire another, with Shams Charania revealing the retirement of Dell Curry's No. 30.
The father of Steph and Seth was one of the best shooters in his day, and over 10 years with the Hornets, he averaged 14 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists per game. Sure, those numbers don't pop off the page for many organizations, but given how little success the Hornets have had, Curry remains one of the most important and beloved players in franchise history.

Ultimately, Curry was a fantastic player for the Hornets during one of the reasonably successful periods in franchise history, and now, on March 19th of this season, he'll see the No. 30 raised into the rafters as a reminder of what he did for this once struggling franchise.
