Kyle Lowry Addresses The Possibility Of The Raptors Retiring His Jersey One Day
Jan 12, 2026
In the past five seasons, Kyle Lowry has split his time between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat, but before that, his career defined him with the Toronto Raptors. Across nine seasons with the team, Lowry averaged 17.5 points a night along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds, becoming one of the best players in franchise history.
Then, the big year came in 2019, when Lowry played a crucial role in the Raptors first and only NBA Championship in history, with Lowry putting up 15, 5 and 7 across their impressive run to the title. While he departed after nine years, Lowry is remembered fondly by so many Raptors fans around the world, and even though he left, he's widely regarded as the greatest point guard in team history.
That has started speculation that the team could end up retiring his jersey, and when asked about that, Lowry revealed his feelings on the potential situation.
"Y'all ever see me cry? I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into that 7."
As of right now, the Raptors have only retired Bill Russell's No. 6 (league wide), and Vince Carter's No. 15, but given what a role Lowry played in their only NBA Championship victory, it could make sense to see No. 7 in the rafters.

Ultimately, Lowry is still active, so the team won't consider it until he announces his retirement, but when that happens, there's a very good chance that Lowry becomes the second Raptor ever with his jersey in the rafters.
