LeBron James Compares Young Atlanta Hawks Star To Six-Time NBA Champion

The Atlanta Hawks have been building around Trae Young for the past eight years, but unfortunately, it appears as though the relationship has started to derail, with many expecting a trade to come in the near future. Now, reports have revealed that the team is going to start building around Jalen Johnson, who has taken his game to another level in 2025–26.

In that time, he's averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, and given his play on the defensive end of the floor on top of that, it's easy to see why the Hawks see him as the future face of the franchise. In his latest podcast appearance, LeBron James has clearly taken notice of Johnson, comparing him to Hall of Famer and six-time NBA Champion Scottie Pippen in the process.

“As far as talent, you look at the long arms, 6’9”, runs like a deer. Super athletic, he’s improved his outside touch. His ability to guard 1–5.”

Clearly, people around the league are taking notice of Johnson, and while he may not be at his peak yet, he's certainly showing signs of someone who can be an All-NBA player for years and years to come.

It's unclear as of right now how good Johnson can become, but with these types of comparisons becoming the norm, it's safe to say that those around the league and the Hawks themselves see him as a superstar for a long time in the NBA.
