LeBron James Addresses His More Limited Role With The Los Angeles Lakers In 2025/26
Jan 5, 2026
LeBron James has been the face of the NBA for more than two decades, and at 41 years of age, he's continued to produce at a very high level for the Los Angeles Lakers. Whether he's officially regarded as the GOAT or not, James will go down in NBA history, and one thing that people can't deny is the incredible longevity that he has shown over his career.
However, in 2025–26, his role with the Lakers has become much more limited, with the success of this team being driven primarily by Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Now, James has addressed that, revealing why he's not only happy to take his new role with the Lakers but also why he's able to adjust and find success in a more limited capacity with the team.
“I don't have any holes in my game, so it helps to be able to do whatever the team needs in that particular moment.”
Clearly, James still remains incredibly confident in his abilities, and while he's averaging just 21 points over his 17 games this season, he's added 5 boards and 5 assists per game as well, giving this team whatever they need in any given situation.

Whether that results in another long run to the NBA Finals, only time will tell. But given his ability to adjust to what the team needs from him, it’s safe to say that this team could be set up for some major success in 2026, potentially the last year of James’ career.
