Kevin Durant Calls Out The Phoenix Suns Following Dramatic Game Winner Against His Former Team
Jan 6, 2026
Kevin Durant has been on many different teams in the NBA, and while he changed teams this offseason, many expected him to remain with the Phoenix Suns moving forward. However, the team needed to acquire some more assets, and with the team not in contention, they decided to move on from KD this past summer, dealing him to the Houston Rockets.
Durant has made no secret of the fact that he felt like Phoenix was home, so when he got the opportunity to bury them in their latest matchup, he took it. On Monday, Durant nailed a game-winning three to take down the red-hot Suns, taking the Rockets to 22–11 on the season as they continue to present as major NBA Championship threats.
After the game, Durant made no secret of how he felt betrayed by Phoenix and how good it felt to nail that game-winner on them.
"Phoenix was a place I didn't want to leave, and my first time being kicked out of a place… I felt like I had been scapegoated for issues we had as a team last year, so yeah, it felt good to hit a game-winning shot."
Ultimately, Houston gives Durant a much better shot at chasing his third ring in the NBA after winning two with Golden State, but given how he felt about the Suns and his future with the team, it's easy to see why he felt so good after being scapegoated by them this summer.
