NBA Insiders Discuss Ja Morant Trade Rumors

Another (former?) star point guard may be on the move this NBA trade deadline. We already saw the Atlanta Hawks cut ties with their longtime franchise cornerstone, Trae Young, but now it seems like another team could be pivoting away from their polarizing star guard.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Ja Morant may be parting ways over the next few weeks, and the Morant rumors are starting to get very interesting.

Recently, two different NBA insiders discussed the NBA trade landscape and the potential that Morant ends up on a different team in the next few weeks.

Shams Charania reported, “For the first time, the Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources tell ESPN.”

Briand Windhorst added, "In talking to executives around the league, I don't think Ja's value is very high right now. Right now, if you're looking at interest in Ja Morant, you're looking at buying low, and that's what I suspect the type of offers the Grizzlies are going to get."

It’s about time. While Morant’s time in Memphis certainly had some exciting moments, on the whole, it has been a failure. The Grizzlies haven’t been able to make a deep playoff run with a core centered around Morant. He’s also brought tons of unnecessary drama and controversy to the team over the last few seasons.

If Morant wants out and the Grizzlies are able to get any sort of value for him, they need to jump at the opportunity. Morant has shown a significant decline this year, and the unfortunate truth is that he and his playing style may never have been good enough to win a championship.
