Jared McCain Opens Up On His Return To Philadelphia Following Surprise Trade

Last season, Jared McCain showed immense potential in Philadelphia, and with the emergence of Tyrese Maxey, optimism was growing that this team had found two key pieces of their core for the future. However, in his first two seasons, he's dealt with plenty of injuries, and that resulted in the team shockingly trading him to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the 2026 NBA trade deadline.

Since arriving in Oklahoma City, McCain has found his best form in his new, limited role, averaging 12 points and 2 rebounds in 19 minutes per game across 19 games played. Now, he's set to return to Philadelphia after appearing in 60 games for the team, and according to the former first-round pick, it's going to be all love between him and Sixers fans.

"They showed so much love. It was heartbreaking, of course. But they always showed love to me, no matter what… I still love Philly, for sure.”

On paper, McCain could have been a key piece of Philly's future, but with the arrival of VJ Edgecombe, trading McCain was a good move, especially with the Sixers getting a first-round pick in return for him.

As of right now however, the move looks like a home run for the Thunder, as they landed a first-round talent that can fit into his role coming off the bench nicely, and if he continues to get solid minutes, he could play a key role in their quest for back-to-back titles.
