Kings to Put Most of Their Best Players Up For Trade
Dec 9, 2025
The Sacramento Kings are stuck. They have a veteran team that they were hoping would be able to compete for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, it isn't looking like that will be possible. Besides the fact that their "stars" aren't really stars, they also don't have any really exciting young players to build around.
That's why the Kings' trade rumors are getting louder. The team needs to change things up badly. Shams Charania of ESPN reported that nearly half of the Kings' playing roster is on the trade block.
"The Kings and first-year general manager Scott Perry are using this season as a patient evaluation campaign, trying to build a gritty culture. They are open-minded about trade talks throughout the roster, sources said. Teams are monitoring veterans Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan, along with 25-year-old guard Keon Ellis."

Add Malik Monk, who is definitely still on the trade block, and you’ve got most of the Kings roster available.
This is honestly the best move for the Kings. They aren't good enough right now, and they aren't going to ever be with this core. They experimented, and it went poorly. Now is the time to pivot and see what they can get before the combination of contract and declining skills makes some of their biggest trade chips less desirable.
That really is the only issue for the Kings. They can want to trade everyone on their roster, but does anyone want what they are offering? Sabonis and Ellis definitely have some trade value, but they aren’t going to get a super exciting package for either.
DeRozan and LaVine could be considered negative assets at this point. They aren't that great, and they are paid like they are.
So if the Kings can get anyone to bite in any way, they should definitely make the move.
