Jalen Brunson For Mayor? Here's What The New York Knicks Star Thinks
Dec 9, 2025
Jalen Brunson has captured the hearts of New York fans with spectacular play on the court. Apparently, that was enough for some citizens of the Big Apple to cast votes for Brunson to hold public office.
During a recent media availability, one reporter brought up the fact that Brunson received 27 votes in the 2025 elections to decide the New York City mayor. The question is: Would the two-time All-Star seriously consider the possibility of gunning for this post?
“At this point in my life, no. I would not consider it,” Brunson bluntly stated.
When another reporter pressed Brunson on the matter, the Knicks star shook his head and stood his ground with a gentle smile. “I’m just gonna focus on basketball. We have a great fanbase. It’s funny, it’s cool to see, but I’mma stay in my lane,” he insisted.
If sticking to his strengths is his main contribution to the city of New York, Brunson would be just fine. In his four seasons with the Knicks, the second-generation athlete has provided steady leadership for the team as a lethal combo guard. This season, Brunson is averaging 28.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game as the Knicks have solidified their spot at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Last season, Brunson endeared himself even more to the Knicks faithful when he led the franchise to its first conference final in 25 years. Though New York fell short of making it to the NBA Finals, the 29-year-old floor general nevertheless proved that he belonged on the biggest stage.

Heading into the 2025–26 campaign, pundits pointed out how wide open the Eastern Conference is, given the absence of recuperating superstars like Tyrese Haliburton and Jayson Tatum. Under the tutelage of new head coach Mike Brown, the Knicks have gotten ahead of most of the competition in the early goings of the season. At 16–7, New York has managed to stay a step ahead of the Boston Celtics (15–9) while avoiding the logjam in the middle of the standings.
This, of course, is largely thanks to Brunson, who leads the team in both points and assists. Just don’t expect him to leverage his fine performance on the court to run for mayor any time soon.
