Spurs Gearing Up For Return of Two Injured Key Pieces

The San Antonio Spurs are about to be a lot more dangerous. They’ve been braving the last few weeks without two of their best players, Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama. While they’ve faired quite well without them (7–3 in their last ten games), the Western Conference is insanely competitive, and they currently sit as the 5th seed.

A recent injury update from the Spurs says that both Castle and Wembanyama are near their return.

Castle told reporters at shootaround on Monday that he plans to play against the New Orleans Pelicans. He’s been out for nine games but is ready to get back on the court and hopefully pick up where he left off. Castle is averaging 17.3 points, 7.5 assists, and 5.8 rebounds a game this season. He will now have to figure out how to play alongside De’Aaron Fox, who missed the start of the season with his own injury.

Wembanyama is also set to return soon, which is the best news any Spurs fan could hope for. Wembanyama was a full participant in practice on Sunday and could return as soon as Wednesday for the Spurs NBA Cup game against the Lakers.

The Spurs are 7–3 without Wembanyama this season, a true nod to their depth. That being said, when Wembanyama is on the floor, the Spurs go from being a solid team to a team to fear.

Once Castle and Wembanyama are fully back and playing, the Spurs are going to have the opportunity to show the league just how good they are.
