Jeff Teague Reveals He'd Take This One Star Point Guard Over Luka Doncic

For most people, Luka Doncic is a top-five player in the NBA, with only reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder being regarded as a better point guard. However, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar isn't perfect, and while he's been a great leader for this team, there are still some glaring weaknesses in his game.

Those defensive struggles were on full display in the Lakers' latest game, causing former NBA guard-turned-analyst Jeff Teague to call him out on his podcast. Not only that, but Teague took it a step further, stating that if he had his choice, he'd take Detroit Pistons superstar Cade Cunningham over Doncic if given the choice.

“I think Luka one of the greatest offensive talents we ever seen… When everybody in the world knows you not gonna stop nobody it’s kinda fu**ed up.”

For a long, long time, people around the league have simply accepted Doncic's defensive struggles, but in Los Angeles, the lights are on even brighter, and it's led to increased criticism over not only his play at that end but also his lack of effort there as well.

On paper, Doncic's numbers look fantastic, as he's put up 34 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists per game in 2025–26, but as we've seen so far, that offensive game can only take a player and a team so far in the postseason. Ultimately, this is a generational player, but with the struggles on the defensive end, it's no surprise that he's being called out by former NBA players for his effort.
