Gabe Vincent Puts On Efficient Shooting Display In Lakers' Preseason Game Vs. Mavericks
Oct 16, 2025
On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Lakers lost a 121-94 blowout to the Dallas Mavericks. This, of course, was a preseason encounter, and there are certain gains that head coach JJ Redick will take as his team prepares for the 2025-26 campaign.
One clear gain was the hot start of Gabe Vincent. In the first four minutes of the game, the 6-foot-3 guard launched five shots from beyond the arc and missed none of them.
Right around the eight-minute mark, Vincent had gotten so hot from three-point territory that Klay Thompson (one of the most renowned sharpshooters in NBA history) got too eager on a closeout and fouled him on an outside attempt. Vincent made all three free throws, bringing his point total to 18.
On the one hand, the Lakers needed their players to step up on offense as Luka Doncic and LeBron James sat out this game. On the other hand, Vincent knocking on the door of 20 points with not even half a quarter going by is an amazing display of efficiency.
Critics, however, will point to the fact that Vincent scored just four points the rest of the way. In the remaining 21 minutes that he was on the court, he made one more three-pointer and a free throw but missed nine field goal attempts.

Still, the hot shooting of Vincent is a welcome sight, given that the Lakers have several variables at play in the upcoming season. There’s the health of James, the increasing responsibility on Doncic’s shoulders, and the contributions of new arrivals like DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart.
Redick, himself a shooter in his heyday as a player, knows the importance of getting consistent shooting from the players on his roster. Vincent, who shot just 35.3% from three-point territory last season, is someone that he’ll count on to space the floor and make life easier for ball-handlers and big men.
Vincent’s shooting performance didn’t translate into a win on Wednesday, but it’s a great start for a player who is looking to earn more minutes on the Lakers roster this season. Now, it’s up to Vincent to prove that five consecutive outside shots were no fluke.
