'I Don't Know How We Lost'; Jaylen Brown Opens Up On Playoff Defeat to the New York Knicks

Heading into the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Boston Celtics were once again seen as the favorite in the Eastern Conference, even if their regular season wasn't as dominant as the year prior. That year prior ended in the team's first NBA Championship since 2008, with many expecting them to repeat, or at least get to the NBA Finals in 2025.

However, they would fall well short, with the New York Knicks leading two iconic comebacks to take down their rivals in six games, before they themselves fell in the Eastern Conference Finals. There's been plenty said about that series, especially the role Jayson Tatum's injury played, but simply put, the Knicks were the better team and got the job done in the end.

With the 2025–26 season right around the corner, some Celtics players are still talking about that series, with star guard Jaylen Brown still in disbelief about losing to New York.

“Last year we won the championship. Duckboats, champagne… this year we gotta listen to insufferable Knicks fans. I don’t know how we lost in general…”

In those six games, Brown shot just 13 of 45 from beyond the arc, and with the Celtics coughing away two leads of 20+ points in Games 1 and 2, it's very easy to see how they fell in this series. Now, they face a tough season ahead without Tatum and some names that have become key players in Boston, and if Brown can't get over that series loss quickly, the 2025–26 campaign could be a brutal one in Boston.
