Cooper Flagg Addresses The Mavericks Slow Start In His Rookie Year
Nov 6, 2025
The Dallas Mavericks made perhaps the most shocking trade in NBA history a year ago, but with a good group of veterans and a star rookie, the hope was that they could be NBA Championship contenders this season. However, things couldn't have started any worse for Dallas, as they are currently 2-6 on the season, sitting dead last in the Western Conference through two weeks.
There has been some promise though, most of it coming from No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, who is showing all the promise of being a franchise star for the Mavericks. Despite this potential, he's clearly become frustrated already, and after the 2-6 start, Flagg has addressed the Mavericks struggles.
“This is the most I’ve lost since, I think, ever.”
Coming from Maine and heading to Duke for his one college season, Flagg has always been the biggest star on whichever team he has played for, and coming into the NBA, he perhaps expected things to proceed in similar fashion. Through eight games, Flagg is averaging 14.4 points, 6.6 boards and 2.8 assists a night, and given all of the other tools that he has, it's safe to say he's ready to be a star in the NBA.

Ultimately though, the team around him has struggled mightily through their first few weeks, but with so much talent in their star rookie and this veteran group, it appears as though it's just a matter of time until they can start turning things around.
