NBA Reporter Reveals The Comment That Scared Minnesota Off Of Drafting Lamelo Ball
Nov 14, 2025
Over the past few seasons, LaMelo Ball has established himself as one of the most exciting players in the entire NBA, even if he has struggled through injury issues in his time with the Charlotte Hornets. Despite the talent, there have been many criticisms of the youngest Ball brother during his NBA tenure, with people accusing him of not taking basketball seriously enough, despite the level at which he plays.
Now, a shocking report has revealed his questionable character, as Jon Krawczynski is reporting the reason why the Minnesota Timberwolves opted out of drafting him No. 1 back in 2020. According to the report, Minnesota asked what Ball wanted to do after basketball, to which he responded with this:
“So, we know they picked Edwards. But that’s not my little nugget for you all. It’s why they picked Edwards. There were a million different reasons in their evaluation. But one of them was that they had an interview with LaMelo Ball during this process—trying to figure out, ‘Hey, is this the guy for us?’ And LaMelo… did not interview very well. One of the questions they asked him was: ‘Hey LaMelo, after you’re done playing, what do you see yourself doing? What kind of things do you aspire to?’ And LaMelo said: ‘I want to be President of the United States.’”
It's unclear exactly what about this turned the team off from drafting Ball, but five years later, he's still yet to take basketball as seriously as many would like, with the Hornets struggling to turn things around. In Minnesota, however, Anthony Edwards has blossomed into one of the best players in the league, so it's safe to say that they made the right decision back in 2020 for many different reasons.
