Zion Williamson Opens Up On His Future With the New Orleans Pelicans
Apr 1, 2026
Back in 2019, Zion Williamson entered the NBA as the No. 1 overall pick, and for many, he was expected to be the next face of the NBA given how generational his talents appeared to be at Duke. Unfortunately, he's struggled to stay healthy in the NBA, but when he's been on the floor, he's shown that he can be an All-Star caliber player for a struggling New Orleans Pelicans team.
Given the injury issues however, his future with the team has long been up in the air, with most fans and analysts expecting him to be traded by the team at any point. It appears as though Zion himself feels the same way, as he recently addressed his future with the organization, acknowledging that he could be dealt by the Pelicans at any time.
“The NBA is a business. I could be traded in the offseason, or I could be traded before next season’s trade deadline.”
Not only has Williamson struggled to stay on the floor, but he's had plenty of controversies off the court as well, and as a result, it appears as though New Orleans are ready to move in a different direction as a franchise, rather than building around Zion.

When healthy in 2025/26, Zion is averaging a solid 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists per game, but given all of the baggage that comes with the injury prone talent, it appears to be a matter of when, not if he'll be dealt.
