Top ESPN Reporter Calls out the NBA for not Marketing Superstar Rookie Cooper Flagg
Oct 7, 2025
Cooper Flagg is the next in a long line of generational prospects set to hit the NBA, with expectations sky-high as he begins his rookie campaign with the Dallas Mavericks. Following the likes of Zion Williamson, Cade Cunningham, and Anthony Edwards, among others, if he can get close to that level, the Mavericks have a future star on their hands as they look to build around this talented young stud.
However, there's been a noticeable drop-off in coverage of Flagg compared to those generational prospects, and it's something that ESPN's Marc Spears recently took issue with.
"NBA, what are you doing? Why aren't you promoting this guy? Get on the train. I don't see him (in the promotions). Nobody's talking about this guy, and they're making a mistake."
Spears brings up the lack of promotion from the NBA surrounding their next big prospects, and given the talent that he's got, it's easy to see why they should be talking much, much more about him. At 6-foot-9, the 18-year-old former Duke star has all of the talent and the skills necessary to be a big-time star in the NBA, and on a team with Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and Kyrie Irving, he'll have every opportunity to thrive.

Every opportunity he's had since joining the Mavericks, Flagg has starred for his new team, and if he starts his regular-season career like that, don't be surprised to see the coverage of the superstar rookie continue to grow.
