The Worst Trade from the NBA Trade Deadline So Far

The NBA trade deadline is almost here! There have been a lot of shocking deals across the league, many that will shape the league for years to come. But who had the worst trade so far this deadline season? We took a look at all the deals so far and determined which was the worst trade from the NBA trade deadline so far.

Hawks Get Pennies for Trae Young

Trae Young trade rumors have been building for years. Even though Young led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals a few years ago, many have believed the Hawks didn’t believe he could be the best player on a team headed to an NBA championship. Because of this, as well as the emergence of Jalen Johnson, their younger and more dynamic new star, the Hawks have been looking at ways to cut ties with Young.

They completed their mission this week by trading Young in a trade that looked like: Wizards get: Trae Young.

Hawks get: CJ McCollum, Corey Kispert.

The reason this is the worst trade of the deadline so far is that the Hawks got no draft compensation or interesting young talent in the trade.

For a team that is looking to rebuild around its younger core, trading its former franchise star for a couple of veteran role players hurts. McCollum will help the team now, but he’s up for an extension soon and could get a bit expensive.

If the Hawks had traded Young last season or even this offseason, they probably could have gotten a much better return. That’s why this is our worst trade of the deadline so far.
