"You Guys Write That B***S***": Jason Kidd Unloads On Reporters Criticizing His Handling Of Cooper Flagg
Feb 3, 2026
As a court general and as a coach, Jason Kidd has proven to be a smooth operator who’s adept at keeping his emotions in check. This past weekend, though, Kidd could hardly bite his tongue.
It was bad enough that his Dallas Mavericks squad came within inches of upsetting the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. In the media session following the 111–107 loss, a Mavericks beat reporter brought up this matter to Kidd: “Coach, you got a lot of national criticism for playing [Cooper] Flagg at point guard. Over the last two games…”
The Mavs mentor did not allow the reporter to finish his question. “Criticism? That's your opinion. You guys write that b***s***,” Kidd fired back. “I've done this. I've played this game. I played it at a very high level. I know what the f*** I'm doing.”
As Kidd continued his tirade, all the other reporters present at the media availability found themselves catching straws. "I don't give a f*** what you guys write because you guys have never played the game. I build players, so I know what the f*** I'm doing."
Kidd certainly has the credentials to validate this verbal smackdown. After being selected as the no. 2 pick in the 1994 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-4 point guard wasted no time showcasing his skills at the NBA level, winning co-Rookie of the Year honors with Grant Hill. Over the next 15 years, the accolades kept stacking up: 10 All-Star selections, six All-NBA nods, and nine All-Defensive Team appearances.
Of course, the biggest flex that Kidd could have flashed in that media room was his championship ring from the 2010–11 season, a validation of his hardcourt excellence that spanned multiple decades. Fittingly, that NBA title came with the very team that he now coaches.

To Kidd’s credit, he appeared to acknowledge the role that naysayers play in his own professional growth. “So, if I take criticism, it only makes me better. Because if I wasn’t doing it right, you guys wouldn’t be poking holes in what I’ve done."
An awkward silence fell as Kidd finished his comments. Just as a reporter attempted to ask another question, the Mavericks head coach hastily said, “Thanks,” and rose from his seat.
