Teams Reportedly Calling Philadelphia About Young Guard
Jan 16, 2026
The Philadelphia 76ers have long been in a rebuild, but after a successful start to the 2025–26 campaign, it appears as though they've built their core that will lead them moving forward. While Joel Embiid is the former MVP and the biggest star on this team alongside Paul George, the youth movement coming through Philly has these fans excited like never before.
Tyrese Maxey has solidified himself as an elite young guard this season, and with both VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes contributing, this is a core to build around. However, one player that has seemingly been overtaken is Jared McCain, who emerged last season as a potential Rookie of the Year threat before being injured.
He was also injured to start the 2025–26 campaign, and as a result, he's been overtaken in the Sixers' depth chart, with many wondering where he fits in moving forward. It's not just fans that are wondering that, but other teams too, as a new report from Evan Sidery has revealed that other teams are calling Philly about the availability of the 21-year-old.
After averaging 15 points and 3 assists in 23 games a year ago, McCain's minutes are down to just 17 a game this season through 30 games, and in that time, he is now averaging just 6 points.

At this point in time, it's unclear if the team is willing to move him, but if another organization offers the right package, we could see the former first-round pick dealt in the near future.
