Joel Embiid Undergoes Surgery; Expected To Miss A Few Weeks Of Action
Apr 10, 2026
After a promising regular season, the Philadelphia 76ers appear to be headed back to the NBA Playoffs, and with a good balance in their lineup, they're seen as a genuine threat to every team in the Eastern Conference. As of right now, the team sit in the No. 8 seed in the East, but with two games to go in the regular season, they've got the chance to move up a few spots to solidify them outside of the play-in.
While they're a team full of young confidence due to their young back court, they've now suffered a major blow that threatens to end their entire 2025/26 season. According to Shams Charania, former MVP Joel Embiid is set to undergo surgery for appendicitis in Houston, a surgery that often comes with a recovery time of multiple weeks.
If the Sixers do end up in the play-in, that will take place between April 14th and 17th, and with Andre Drummond and Adem Bona as the two other center's on the current roster, it's safe to say that their job of chasing an NBA Championship will become much, much harder.

Beyond Embiid, this is a team now led by Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Paul George, and if they end up against the likes of Charlotte, Orlando or Miami in the play-in, they'll be a team full of confidence. Ultimately though, if Embiid is out for several weeks, the Sixers chances take a drastic hit, and if he gets back, there's no guarantee that he's back to 100%, so this may end up leading to their downfall once more.
