Steve Kerr Addresses The Risk Of Going All-In To Trade For A Superstar

The Golden State Warriors went on a run late in the 2024–25 season, and while it's not all on Jimmy Butler, acquiring the former Miami Heat superstar certainly helped this organization in a massive way. This season, they've been unable to recapture that momentum consistently, as the team currently sits at 18–16 following a 5–1 record in their last six, placing them in eighth place in the Western Conference.

With a veteran core of Butler, Draymond Green, and Steph Curry, many believe this team can still be competitive, but if they want to compete in the West, they need much more firepower. Given that there's speculation around several young players, the belief around the league is now that this team is ready to make a splash.

However, head coach Steve Kerr has now pumped the brakes on that chatter, naming the Clippers and Suns as two teams the Warriors don't want to replicate by giving up all their draft picks for a superstar in a trade.

"All you have to do is look at some of these teams out there that have given up the world for a star player, and now they're looking around like the Clippers, no picks. Phoenix, no picks. Milwaukee, no picks. You can really paint yourself into a corner if you're risky and irresponsible."

While this isn't Kerr shutting down any possibility of a blockbuster trade, it's certainly something to remember as the Warriors continue to be linked to big names, with this team likely to be more conservative at the trade deadline.
