"Should've Signed That Contract": Viral Clip Shows Luka Doncic Talking To Trash To Ex-Laker Dennis Schroder

Luka Doncic is an underrated practitioner of trash talk. While his skills on the basketball court certainly scream at the opposition, he can also speak volumes with his verbal intimidation.

On Sunday, Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schroder found himself on the receiving end of Doncic’s smack talk. A viral clip shows Doncic savagely bringing up a lowlight of Schroder’s career.

“Should’ve signed that contract, baby,” Doncic tells Schroder in the clip.

Clearly, Doncic knows his not-so-distant NBA history. Back in 2021, the Los Angeles Lakers reportedly offered Schroder a four-year, $84 million extension. Schroder was said to have turned down this offer, but upon hitting free agency in the ensuing offseason, he ended up with a significantly smaller contract with the Boston Celtics.

To add insult to injury, Doncic led all scorers in the Mavericks’ 125–101 victory over the Kings as he put up 34 points on 11-for-23 shooting from the field. Schroder, meanwhile, chipped in 11 points and seven assists off the bench.

If this verbal incident looks more petty than fiery, think again. More than a month before the 2025–26 NBA season tipped off, Doncic and Schroder were already going at it as Slovenia met Germany in the EuroBasket quarterfinals. Though Doncic was his usual sensational self (39 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists in this knockout affair), Schroder ended up with the last laugh as he scored 20 points to lead Germany to the semis.

When the dust settled in that tournament, Schroder and his compatriots were biting into their EuroBasket gold medals, while Doncic won the scoring title, along with a spot on the EuroBasket All-Star Five. In other words, the verbal barrage that Doncic unleashed this past weekend is likely fueled by both competitiveness on the NBA’s grand stage and unfinished business in international play.

Sunday’s victory marks two wins for the Mavericks in their season series against the Kings, who will have two more chances over the next three months to redeem themselves. With the trade deadline looming on the horizon, it’s possible that Schroder will no longer be wearing a Kings jersey when these two Western Conference teams square off again. But if Schroder stays put, Doncic will perhaps have another round of psychological ammunition to unload.
