Rockets Amen Thompson On Playing With Durant: Will Make My Life Easier

Rockets guard Amen Thompson is fast developing into a star, and he says his team’s addition of Kevin Durant is only going to help him get there faster.

The Houston Rockets spent multiple years on a downswing but have drafted incredibly well and are now on the precipice of being a true contender in the Western Conference. The team drafted exceedingly well, adding players like Jabari Smith, Alperen Şengün, and Thompson.

After a 52-win season in 2024-25, the team is looking to take another step forward by trading for Kevin Durant. While Durant is now 36 years old, he is still playing very well and remains one of the great shooters in NBA history.

During a recent Summer League interview with Space City Home Network's Vanessa Richardson, Thompson explained,

"He’s going to make my life a lot easier. He’s one of the greatest players ever, one of the best scorers ever. Just being on the court with him is going to open things up – space, reads, timing. … Definitely going to be passing it to him a lot. They’re going to be double-teaming him, so I’m going to be cutting off the back of it."

Thompson was one of the best stat stuffers in the league last season, averaging 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He was also a beast on the defensive end, earning NBA All-Defensive First Team honors. The sky is the limit for the young Houston Rocket, and Durant should help him reach his massive ceiling faster.
