Reporter Calls Warriors-Kuminga Situation "Toxic"
Jan 16, 2026
The Golden State Warriors have been in a bad situation with their young forward, Jonathan Kuminga. Kuminga hasn’t wanted to be on the team for at least a year now, and the Warriors have not been willing to trade him for the packages they’ve been offered.

Recently, the situation between the team and Kuminga has gotten even worse. Brett Siegel reported on the recent change in vibes between the Warriors and Kuminga.
"He did not want to go back to the Warriors... The team is actively looking to move [him]... I wouldn't say that the market is completely dead... There are 4–5 legitimate teams with a genuine interest in him right now... Any deal is gonna involve multiple teams here... It's toxic. Kuminga doesn't want to be there. Steve Kerr doesn't want him. It doesn't make sense for them to keep him past his trade deadline."
This isn’t a good look for anyone. Even if the Warriors want to trade Kuminga, his value is lower when everyone knows that the situation is toxic. Kuminga also isn’t making things easier on himself. He is “demanding” a trade from a team that wants to trade him.
In the end, Kuminga will get moved, and the Warriors probably won’t be happy with the return that they get. They had the opportunity to get a first-round pick for him this summer but thought it would be better to hold on and look for more.
They won't get more, and they caused a lot of drama within the locker room to find that out. Soon, this will all be over, but until then, we need to hear more about how bad things are with the Golden State.
