Report: PJ Washington Likely To Get Extension From Mavericks

According to basketball reporter Marc Stein, it is likely that PJ Washington will receive an extension from the Dallas Mavericks.

The year of 2025 has been all over the place for the Mavericks. In January, the team traded away franchise pillar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The trade was incredibly controversial, and the Mavericks, who were 26-23 at the time of the trade, were 13-20 afterwards.

While the season may have ended poorly, the Mavericks have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming season. Thanks to all those losses, Dallas won the draft lottery and was able to select generational prospect Cooper Flagg.

The Mavericks are also loaded with talented vets. They have superstars Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, though Irving is recovering from injury. The team also boasts talented veterans like D'Angelo Russell, Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington.

First selected by the Charlotte Hornets with the 12th overall selection of the 2019 NBA Draft, Washington has been an effective two-way forward for several years.

Dallas first acquired Washington from the Hornets in 2024 in return for Seth Curry, Grant Williams and a first round pick. Washington immediately became a key contributor for the team and was a key figure in their run to the NBA finals.

Washington was again a strong player for the Mavericks in 2024-2025. He played 32 minutes a game, averaging 14.7 points and a career-high 7.8 rebounds a game. A new extension for the forward is expected to start at four years for $90 million.
