Report: LeBron Supportive of Lakers Move Towards Doncic Era
Aug 4, 2025
According to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania, LeBron James has been supportive of the Lakers transition to Luka Doncic's team.
The trade of Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers will remain one of the most surprising in NBA history. Doncic was supposedly an untouchable player and all of a sudden he was suiting up next to franchise icon LeBron James.
Since high school, James has never not been the focal point of his basketball team. He is now 40 years old, though and eventually his career will come to an end. That doesn't mean that he can't have a successful end to his career with the Lakers, but it won't just be about him.
When asked about how James was dealing with the current situation in LA, Charania responded:
"He’s opted in, so technically he’s a Laker. How will he finish his career though? Is he gonna play Year 23 and finish out in L.A. and that’s gonna be it? At the end of the day, I think the Lakers even understand he’s gonna end his career on his own terms. He wants to end his career on his own terms and I think he’s earned the right to do that. We just don’t know what that looks like yet."
The Lakers are coming off an impressive offseason. Despite not having a ton of cap space, the team was able to add DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart. According to reports, Doncic was critical in recruiting the two veterans to the team.
