Quentin Grimes Signs One-Year Qualifying Offer To Return to Philadelphia This Season
Oct 2, 2025
The Philadelphia 76ers made some solid moves this offseason, but heading into the regular season, they still had one major piece of business to take care of. That business revolves around rising star Quentin Grimes, who was eligible for a long-term extension this summer, with the player reportedly asking for more than $20 million per season on a long-term deal.
However, the Sixers seemingly weren't comfortable giving him that deal, as they have now come to terms on the one-year qualifying offer that will pay the former first-round pick $8.7 million for the upcoming 2025–26 campaign.
As a result, Grimes will have a no-trade clause in his contract for next season as he now prepares to hit unrestricted free agency 12 months from now, something that could pay off if he continues his form from 2024–25 into this season. In his time with the 76ers so far, Grimes averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists through 28 games played. With a lethal three-point shot and great defense, he has the potential to be something very special in the NBA.

Originally, Grimes' asking price was reportedly north of $25 million per season, and while it makes sense for Philly not to entertain that offer, it's surprising that they couldn't get a multiyear deal done at some point. Ultimately, it's most likely that the Sixers could look to move him at some point this season, but with unrestricted free agency ahead, Grimes will use his 3-and-D abilities to get paid in a big way on the open market.
