LeBron James Hints At Retirement Plans During Lakers Media Day
Sep 30, 2025
LeBron James’ career is coming to an end. He’s over 40 years old and has been hinting at hanging up his sneakers for a few years now. The problem is, he still can play. It’s hard to call it quits when you’re still one of the best players in the league.
That’s why everyone is starting to wonder when LeBron wants to retire. People expect him to play at least one more year after this one. After all, can you really see LeBron quietly riding into the sunset? Probably not. He will demand a retirement tour à la Kobe Bryant, and he deserves it.
Another reason people think that LeBron may extend his playing career is for the chance to play with his son, Bryce James. James already held on long enough in order to play with his eldest, Bronny James. He helped get Bronny drafted to the Lakers, and they spent last season as the first father-son duo to play together in NBA history.

Some people have wondered if James will do the same in order to play with his other son. At Lakers media day, James set the record straight:
“I’m not waiting on Bryce. I don’t know what his timeline is. He’s his own young man now. We’ll see what happens this year, next year. He’s got his timeline, I’ve got mine. And I don’t know if they quite match up.”
This could be both a statement about Bryce’s plans to play in college and beyond or about how much longer LeBron has left in his career. Either way, it doesn’t sound like LeBron will be playing with both of his sons in the NBA.
