Recent Report Reveals Contract Dispute Between Josh Giddey And The Bulls

Despite how he is perceived on the floor by the larger NBA fanbase, Josh Giddey had a fantastic 2024/25 campaign with the Chicago Bulls, and at just 22-years of age, there's a very bright future in the league for the young guard. Giddey comes into the summer as an RFA, and while the Chicago Bulls clearly want to keep him around as a long-term piece in their backcourt, things aren't going quite as smoothly as one would hope.

According to Jake Fischer, the two parties are far apart in negotiations, with speculation being that they are up to $10 million apart on a long-term deal.

“Giddey's representation has not wavered in its pursuit of a $30 million annual salary, sources say, while the Bulls' offers have been much closer to $20 million. Giddey has been in Las Vegas since Summer League play began but did not make appearances at either of Chicago’s first two Summer League games.”

That's a fairly large gap to have in today's NBA in contract negotiations, and while Giddey hasn't exactly played like a superstar throughout his career, he's flashed enough potential to be seen as a cornerstone for the Bulls moving forward. Last season, the Australian native tallied 15 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in his first season with Chicago while playing 30 points a night, more than enough to prove he could be their starting guard for a long time to come.

It's unclear if things will get resolved anytime soon in this situation, but it's clear that the Bulls need talent like Giddey moving forward, and unless they can find someone to replace his consistent, balanced production, things should get resolved before the season begins.
