Draymond Green Speaks Up About Jonathan Kuminga Missing Media Day

We are just hours away from a resolution on the Jonathan Kuminga contract negotiations. Kuminga needs to decide whether he is going to take the guaranteed money or risk it all by taking the qualifying offer. Taking the qualifying offer gives Kuminga control, but it is a huge risk. If Kuminga doesn’t have a good season, he may end up losing out on tens of millions of dollars.

Of course, with Kuminga missing the Golden State Warriors media day, players were bound to be asked their opinions on the situation.

Draymond Green said, “It sucks for all those guys involved…Like I said, including JK, you don't get the opportunity to start your thing how you normally start your thing, and saying that, we all understand this situation. He’s got to do what he’s got to do for himself. Um, this is a business, you know, and that’s where I think you have to always understand, like, it’s unfortunate when the business side gets in front of things, but it is the business, and you can’t ignore that side of things.”

Draymond seems quite sympathetic to the Kuminga contract dispute. What Draymond thinks of the Kuminga situation is important. As the most vocal leader of the team, he will set the tone for what the rest of the guys think and feel. If Kuminga doesn’t get traded in a sign-and-trade, he is going to be on the Warriors' roster to start the season.

Some people are worried that the ill will created during this offseason could bleed into the regular season. Kuminga needs to come into training camp ready to play hard and help the Warriors compete for a championship. If not, players like Draymond may change their tune.
