Sacramento Kings Reportedly Looking To Trade Sixth Man of the Year Candidate

The Sacramento Kings have made some intriguing moves in the past few years, with the team acquiring DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine while moving out homegrown star DeAaron Fox. Those moves are now set to continue, as the team is widely considered the favorite to land former MVP point guard Russell Westbrook this summer after spending this past season with the Denver Nuggets.

In order to sign Westbrook, however, reports have now surfaced from Kings reporter Matt George that the team is looking to move on from former Sixth Man of the Year candidate Malik Monk.

This comes on the back of a season in which Monk averaged a career-high of 17 points a night on 44% shooting from the field, with Monk being a finalist for Sixth Man of the Year twice over his three seasons in Sacramento. At just 27 years of age, Monk is the perfect candidate for contending teams around the league looking for a consistent spark plug off the bench, as he is only now entering his prime after averaging 15 points a night over three seasons with the Kings.

On top of Monk, the team is also looking to move 23-year-old Devin Carter, a guard that showed flashes of being a future role player in just 11.0 minutes per game in 2024/25.

At this point, it's likely that if the Kings bring in Westbrook, it's going to be either Monk or Carter that are moved out to make way for him, with the team continuing to add aging veterans around the duo of Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray.
