One Of Two NBA Teams Could Reportedly Move If The League Agrees To Expansion

Over the past several years, expansion has been one of the hottest topics in the NBA, despite Commissioner Adam Silver shutting down the idea at several points throughout that time. Now however, it appears to be a matter of when, not if the league is looking to expand, as the Board of Governors is set to vote on potential expansion later this month, with Vegas and Seattle the two likely destinations for new (and returning) NBA teams.

While it's not a done deal, recent reports have revealed the overall effect this would have on the NBA, with expansion reportedly eyed for the 2028/29 campaign. One thing that will need to happen is realignment, and now a new report has revealed the two teams that are being discussed to be moved to the Eastern Conference.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves are the two teams being discussed as Eastern Conference teams of the future if the league do end up moving into Seattle and Las Vegas. On paper, this makes perfect sense, and given the proximity to cities like Detroit, Chicago, Minnesota and Indiana, the Timberwolves are the team most likely to be moved if the league becomes 32 teams.

Ultimately, this is a good thing for the NBA, as there is so much talent around that two more teams will allow more fans to enjoy the league and more players opportunities, and while it may mean a major change for Minnesota or Memphis, it's worth the change for the league.
