Sacramento Kings Sign Former First-Round Pick To Two-Year Deal

When he was drafted in the first round by the Detroit Pistons, there were incredibly high hopes around the league for Killian Hayes, but unfortunately, he's struggled to live up to those expectations thus far. The French point guard averaged just 8 points a night for the Pistons across four seasons, but with injuries and inconsistencies, many doubted he had a long-term future in the NBA.

Last season, Hayes was given a lifeline by the Brooklyn Nets, and after struggling again, he found his way to Sacramento on multiple 10-day contracts. Now, he has officially earned another full-time NBA deal, as the team have announced he has signed a two-year extension with the organization at 24-years of age.

In 11 appearances with the Kings thus far in 2025/26, Hayes is averaging 5 points and 4 rebounds a night in 17 minutes of action, and while those numbers aren't eye popping, he's certainly showing this organization some potential. Unfortunately, Hayes is still struggling as a shooter, shooting 31% from the field and just 30% from beyond the arc, and if he wants a long-term future in the league, there's no doubting that he'll have to improve on that shooting stroke.

Ultimately, this is a Kings organization with very little talent for the future, and in Hayes, the team see a 24-year old that could be molded into a very solid rotation player, and to prove it, they've committed to him for two years moving forward.
