NBA Executive Reveals That Players In Atlanta Don't Like Playing With Trae Young
Dec 31, 2025
The Atlanta Hawks have been built around Trae Young for a number of years, and given his individual success, it clearly worked for a time. However, things have been going downhill as of late, and with the arrival of other young stars, all speculation now points towards Atlanta moving on from the former No. 5 overall pick.
Now, things are clearly deteriorating in Atlanta, with a recent anonymous NBA executive revealing why players in Atlanta don't like playing with the All-Star guard.
“It’s hard to think of a team that’s trying to win this season that Trae would help, especially once you factor in what that team would be losing from the players they would have to send back as matching salary. He doesn’t defend. He doesn’t rebound. Guys hate playing with him.”
Sure, the offensive talent is great, as Young is able to shoot the three at a high level and get his teammates involved, but with no effort shown on the boards or the defensive end, it’s no surprise that players don't want to play with him.

This year, the Hawks sit 10th in the East with a 15–19 record, and while Young averages 15 and 9 on the year, it’s clear that Jalen Johnson has overtaken him as the best player on this team. That’s likely going to lead to a trade, but if players in Atlanta don't like playing with him, it's unclear if players around the league would welcome him moving forward.
