NBA Insider Believes Spurs Should Pursue This 28-Year-Old All-Star Forward

The San Antonio Spurs are in a great position. They have had the last two NBA Rookie of the Year winners, and some believe one of them could become the greatest player of all time. While it may be early to crown Victor Wembanyama with anything yet, he has shown so much potential that it is hard not to get excited about the Spurs' future.
Additionally, they just picked up a borderline All-Star point guard in De’Aaron Fox. They signed him to a multi-year extension this offseason.

Because of their youth and inexperience, the Spurs aren’t expected to contend for a championship quite yet. That being said, they could potentially make a playoff run this year if Wembanyama makes the leap many are expecting.
One NBA insider believes that the Spurs will look to improve their roster even more by picking up an All-Star forward.
Yahoo Sports’ Kevin O’Connor said on his podcast, The Kevin O’Connor Show, “Lauri Markkanen is one of the types of guys that if I’m the Spurs, I’m like, ‘Yes, sign me up. Bring me Lauri Markkanen.’ Because of the shooting ability and everything he does on ball, off ball, motion, movement, passing… Like Lauri Markkanen fits anywhere, and he brings exactly what the Spurs need with his shooting ability in the frontcourt, so that’s where I kind of come down with. I think they need to trade in part because of the lack of shooting."
If the Spurs traded for Lauri Markkanen, it would instantly vault them toward the top of the Western Conference. His fit next to Wembanyama is ideal, being able to spread the floor and create some of his own offense.
This is why the Spurs are so well-positioned for the future. Not only do they have young studs who are only getting better, but they also have a ton of assets to make a trade. Trading for Markkanen could be one of those trades, and O’Connor is right, with Markkanen, they would be very dangerous.
