Fred VanVleet Suffers Brutal Injury; Set to Miss the Entire Regular Season

The Houston Rockets made one of the biggest moves of the NBA offseason in 2025, acquiring Kevin Durant to pair one of the league's all-time greatest scorers with this impressive young core. That gives the team one of the most balanced lineups in the entire NBA, with most Rockets fans having championship aspirations this season.

Now, however, those have taken a brutal hit, as Shams Charania has announced heartbreaking news for veteran Fred VanVleet.

According to Charania, the 31-year-old suffered a torn ACL during offseason workouts, and barring a miracle, this means he'll likely miss the entire 2025/26 regular season. This is brutal for both VanVleet and the Rockets, as he was expected to be their starting point guard this season, but now, they'll need to find another floor general to lead them forward as they look to chase an NBA title.

For VanVleet, this is a major setback after another impressive season with the Rockets, and at 31 years of age, coming back from an ACL tear isn't going to be easy. For the Rockets, they'll now likely look at the trade market and free agency for a potential solution, with the likes of Russell Westbrook, Delon Wright, and others still available.

Unfortunately, replacing a key piece of their rotation this late in the offseason was something they certainly didn't expect, but with championship aspirations still, they'll need to find a way to get it done in the coming weeks ahead of the regular season.
