Mavericks May Finally Be Getting Some Positive Injury News
Jan 14, 2026
It’s been a tough few months for Mavericks fans. First, of course, was the Luka Dončić trade. One of the worst trades in sports history that completely flipped the prospects and fortunes of the entire franchise. Since then, it seems like a lot has gone wrong for the Mavericks.
It started with injuries last season to Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving. Then Derek Lively II went down with a season-ending injury. This season, the Mavericks' injury luck has continued to be depressing. Anthony Davis keeps going down with various ailments and recently suffered a significant hand injury just as the team was gearing up to listen to trade offers for him.

The Mavericks were in desperate need of some good injury news. They got it with a recent Kyrie Irving injury update.
The Dallas Hoops Journal reported Tuesday, “While the Mavericks have not publicly communicated a return timetable for Kyrie Irving, sources tell DallasHoopsJournal.com there has been no indication he will be shut down for the season. Instead, the prevailing expectation is that Irving’s return would more realistically come after the NBA All-Star break as it stands, rather than before it.”
Even though Irving's return this season may not have a huge effect on the Mavericks' playoff chances, it's still great news. The Mavericks need to see how Irving and their new franchise star, Cooper Flagg, work together. Once they figure out the fit between those two, they can decide just exactly how they want to build around Flagg for the next few seasons.
