Kings GM Won't Panic at NBA Trade Deadline

The Sacramento Kings need to make some major changes. They’re currently one of the worst teams in the league, yet they have a roster filled with veteran talent that wants to be competing for playoff spots. On top of that, the Kings don’t have many young prospects that could be worth trying to build around in the future.

This means the Kings will be in the middle of a bunch of the NBA trade rumors this deadline.

Their GM, Scott Perry, recently revealed his strategy for trade season.

“My mentality is the same; it has always been since I’ve been in the league, to be really honest with you. I’m always going to work the phones. I’m always going try to figure out how we can improve the team, both short and long term, if possible. But I want to be prudent and opportunistic in doing that. I’m not somebody who does things out of panic. So, it’s got to make sense for us. So, we’ll see. But obviously, we know we’re far from a finished product, so we’ve got to be open to getting better. And this is one of the vehicles that you have at your disposal in trying to get better. It’s seeing that there’s a trade that makes sense and fits for not only you, but it’s got to fit for the other team or teams that you’re involved with.”

The Kings have been known as a place to get a great bargain on the trade market. In the past, they’ve made some very questionable, lopsided, and shortsighted trades.

Kings fans should be happy that their GM is trying not to make the same mistakes the team has made in the past. If he manages to make some good moves, he could be the man to turn this cursed franchise’s fortunes around.
