Jonathan Kuminga Officially Requests A Trade From The Golden State Warriors

This summer was full of drama in the Golden State, with the team looking to prioritize their short-term future in the final years of Steph Curry in the NBA. That meant that there was plenty of speculation about the future of Jonathan Kuminga, with the player and the front office seemingly not being able to get on the same page as to how to proceed moving forward.

While the two sides were able to find common ground for this season, it appeared as though the team was ready to move on from the 22-year-old when they got the opportunity. That chance is now, as ESPN has now reported that the former first-round draft pick has officially requested a trade from the team, and with the Warriors looking for an upgrade, they're likely going to be happy to oblige.

It's unclear exactly when the team will look to deal Kuminga, but with the opportunity to use his upside to land a more proven player at the three, this is the chance for the Warriors to get maximum value out of the 22-year-old.

In 18 games played this season, Kuminga has averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in a limited role, but in an expanded role, the belief around the league is that he could be a star. Unfortunately, he likely isn't going to get that opportunity in Golden State, and now, all signs are pointing to the two parties finally parting ways in the coming weeks.
