Jokic Says He Wants to Stay in Denver Forever

It’s super rare to see an NBA superstar spend his whole career in one place. When LeBron James left the Cleveland Cavaliers to form the Big Three in Miami, he started a chain reaction of stars leaving small markets for big ones, and changing teams whenever things weren’t going as they liked.

Teams aren’t even loyal to their superstars anymore. We just saw the Dallas Mavericks ship out Luka Doncic just a season after he carried them to the NBA Finals. Nobody is safe.

Nikola Jokic was recently asked if he would ever leave the Denver Nuggets, given the opportunity.

“I wouldn't like to imagine that. Even if we never win anything else after this, an organic title, it means more to me than anything. I really found peace here. My two kids were born here. Everyone's here. Peace, home, I found my life here. And I like life here. I don't feel the need, I don't have the urge to. We built something here, together as a team."

Jokic already won one championship for the Nuggets’ organization. Once you’ve done that, a player is kind of off the hook. If Jokic wanted to leave for a better team, a winning situation, or just to switch things up, nobody in Denver could blame him.

However, that’s not what Jokic is about. He is a loyal guy, and has made Denver his home. Moving from Serbia to America is a big thing; having a comfortable home in a new country is no small thing. Now that he has built the Nuggets into a contending organization and his family is happy and settled here, he has no reason to want to leave.
