Jayson Tatum Reportedly Informs The Celtics He Plans to Play this Season

Jayson Tatum's 2024–25 season ended in the worst way possible, with the Boston Celtics being eliminated by the New York Knicks as the superstar forward tore his Achilles. After the event, many simply ruled him out for the upcoming season, but as of right now, it doesn't appear as though he's giving up.

Recently, video emerged of Tatum not only back on the basketball court but also gingerly dunking — just months after his injury. That is an amazing recovery time. Obviously, he's not ready to play any basketball as of right now, but that doesn't mean he is giving up hope, and all that comes before a bombshell from Shams Charania.

In the ESPN Insider appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, he made an amazing revelation: Tatum told the Celtics he is pushing to play in 2025–26.

Crucially, we've not heard much from the Celtics camp, with the team seemingly open to having him play this season as well. But after such a brutal injury —both physically and mentally— it's not going to be easy to get back on the court.

We have seen reports, however, of how well his recovery is coming along, and given how good modern-day medicine is for athletes, no one is doubting the Celtics superstar. On top of all of that, if the likes of Payton Pritchard, Derrick White, and Jaylen Brown can keep things together, Tatum may find his way back for the playoffs, and if he does, the Celtics aren't a team to be taken lightly.
