Former NBA Coach Says What ANT Needs to Add to His Game

Former NBA coaches have a ton of knowledge. Not only do they often have their own basketball experience to pull from, but the lucky ones have also gotten to watch how legends become and stay great. Coaching a Hall of Famer can teach you more about the game than years of studying.

Former NBA coach David Fizdale had the pleasure of working with multiple Hall of Famers during his coaching career. He recently went on the Fast Break Podcast and spoke with Byron Scott, another former NBA coach.

Fizdale spoke about Anthony Edwards and what he thinks he can do to become more like the all-time greats he coached.

“I think there’s still a lot there that he can tap into. I’m a D Wade, Bron, and Joe Johnson; that was my little group I used to work with. They haven’t gotten Ant live ball catches at the elbow or the post yet. What happens with that first step, and he’s two steps from the rim? He already got the fall away. He’s just not getting it there (post) and putting footwork and fakes together. Think about how much fouls he would draw. He's already crazy talented, but that part of his game, oh my god. We would be looking at one of them next, guys. That part of his game would add that Kobe, Jordan, LeBron, and D. Wade. Think about what changed, Bron; he went to see the Dream… When Bron got that (post-game), everything changed. I would love to be in the gym with Ant.”

ANT adding a strong post-up game to his repertoire would be huge. He’s already spent a summer focusing on adding 3-point shooting to his game. That improvement has been incredible. If he added more post moves, there’s no limit to how good he could be offensively.
