Domantas Sabonis Reportedly Frustrated With His New Role In The Sacramento Kings Offense

The Sacramento Kings are off to a horror start in 2025–26, and with the team being full of veterans, it appears as though they are ready to move on and rebuild. That means the likes of Zach LaVine, Russell Westbrook, DeMar DeRozan, and Domantas Sabonis are all potentially on the move in the coming months.

For the latter, that may be a relief, as reports from Michael Scotto have now revealed that in the Kings' new system, Sabonis has become frustrated with his role after finding immense success in a different role in recent seasons.

“Sabonis has been disappointed with Sacramento’s downward trajectory since reaching the playoffs and his usage at times under coach Doug Christie, league sources told HoopsHype.”

While it makes sense for Sabonis not to have the usage numbers of multi-time MVPs like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Nikola Jokic, the Kings have been at their best in recent years with the ball in his hands on a consistent basis. In 2025–26, those usage numbers are down mightily, and with Sabonis missing a few weeks of action, he may use this time to weigh up his future in Sacramento.

As of right now, it's unclear how much Sabonis has voiced his frustration to the team, but with the team sitting at 5–13 through 18 games, it's clear that something's not working. Whether or not that results in a trade of Sabonis, only time will tell, but as of right now, it's clear that he's frustrated, and for the team to turn things around, something has to change.
