CJ McCollum Has Nice Things to Say On Way Out of DC
Jan 8, 2026
The Washington Wizards just made a big move. They acquired Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks and traded away veteran guard CJ McCollum, along with their former first-round pick Corey Kispert. This marks a big change for the Wizards, as they finally have a star on their roster for the first time since… Bradley Beal?
While the Wizards are widely considered one of the most inept franchises in the NBA, McCollum, who has a strong voice in the NBA community, actually had some nice things to say on his way out the door.
“Loved my time in DC. Organization was great to my family, and I. Michael Winger and Will [Dawkins] did everything they said they would and kept their word from the very beginning. Love the city, and they’re doing things the right way over there. Excited to get to The A and get to work. Very familiar with their style of play. Love the ownership group and front office. Good group of players.”

McCollum is always a professional. Even if he hated his time in DC, he would never say it publicly. Still, when the Wizards traded for McCollum, they probably gave him some assurances that they would do their best to move him to a more competitive team as soon as they could.
McCollum played 35 games for the Wizards, averaging 18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. His solid play probably helped the Wizards out quite a bit because they didn’t need to attach any other major assets (besides Corey Kispert) in the trade that landed them a four-time All-Star.
