Jaylin Williams Set To Make History After DeAndre Jordan's NBA Departure
Oct 1, 2025
Jaylin Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder made history this past season, winning their first NBA Championship in franchise history, and with their young core locked in, it could be a successful stretch for this team. While not everyone on the team plays a huge role on the court, the depth they've created has been impressive, with players like Williams playing key roles for the team.
Now, it's been confirmed that Jaylin will make NBA history, as DeAndre Jordan has departed his current team, meaning his grandfathered-in No. 6 is no longer applicable. What that means is that now, Williams is the last player in NBA history to wear No. 6, made famous by NBA icon Bill Russell.
This comes after the number was retired league-wide in honour of the iconic Bill Russell, who did so much for the game both on and off the court throughout his incredible career at the NBA level. This should be a major honor for Williams, as most players in the NBA grow up revering the likes of Russell, so to be the last player to wear the iconic No. 6 should be seen as an incredible honor for the young Thunder talent.

In three NBA seasons, Williams has averaged five points a night in 16 minutes a game with the Thunder, so while he may never be a star in the league, he'll always hold the distinction as the last player to ever wear Bill Russell's No. 6 in the NBA.
