Jimmy Butler Empathizes With Jonathan Kuminga's Current Situation in Golden State

The Golden State Warriors had a very dramatic off-season in 2025, with most of that centred around young star Jonathan Kuminga. Despite some on the team seemingly wanting him moved, they committed to their former No. 7 overall pick for years to come, but even after a solid start to the season, there may still be some hard feelings there.

In 2025/26, Kuminga is averaging 14 points in 28 minutes a night across 13 games played, but in his role, it appears he's still not happy, with some in the organization still clearly not wanting him around. That's a feeling that Jimmy Butler knows well throughout his career, and now he's opened up on how he empathizes with the 22-year old.

“Can you just imagine being in a place where -- like, I get it -- are you wanted here or not? That's the worst feeling, man. Can you imagine it? I had to deal with it at the later part [of my tenure] in Miami. It's like, damn, I've been here. What are we talking about? It's a s---ty place to be in. And no matter what you do, you don't feel like you're doing right.”

On the floor, there's been no drama involving Kuminga this season, but for Butler to come out and say this, clearly there's some tensions behind the scenes.

Only time will tell how things play out in Golden State, but given the animosity that came out in the media over the summer, it's safe to say that this will reach a boiling point in the future.
