The NBA Fines Joel Embiid For His Use Of A 'Lewd Gesture'
Nov 3, 2025
Joel Embiid has struggled to stay healthy in recent years, but after missing the majority of the 2024/25 campaign, the hope is that the can finally be healthy again moving forward. Through six games this season for Philadelphia, Embiid has appeared in four of them, averaging a solid 17, 5 & 4 in just 22 minutes of game time as the team look to build him back up and keep him healthy for a potential NBA Playoffs run.
With Embiid potentially healthy, this may be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, as the back court rotation of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes have this team rolling at 5-1 already this year. However, we know that the league isn't a fan of Embiid's antics on and off the court, and in just four games, they've already found a reason to fine the former MVP.
According to reports, the league did not appreciate the above 'lewd gesture' that Embiid used on the court over the weekend, deciding to fine him $50,000 as a result. Embiid was quick to respond on social media, stating that he was simply doing the gesture that officials use for a blocking foul, calling out the league in the process.
Clearly, that wasn't what Embiid was doing, and he's simply having some fun with the situation on social media, but after his history on the court, it's no surprise that the NBA is keeping a very close eye on Embiid and what he's doing on the floor.
