Terry Rozier Against Miami Heat Buyout Due To Lack Of Interest As A Free Agent

Over the past few weeks, the expectation around the NBA has been that the Miami Heat are ready to buy out veteran guard Terry Rozier. Despite averaging 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists over his two seasons with Miami, the team clearly doesn’t want the final year of his contract on the books, with the buyout likely to come at any time.

However, there's now been a major complication on that front, as it appears the 31-year-old isn't too interested in that outcome right now.

“There have been discussions about a Rozier buyout, but those talks have not gained traction, without any outside options for the veteran guard at the moment, as Rozier remains linked to a federal gambling investigation.”

When most players get bought out, they do so to sign a deal with another team, but in Rozier's case, given his age and his declining play, he doesn't believe there will be another contract out there waiting for him. That may or may not be the case, but if he doesn't agree to a buyout, that may force Miami's hand into trading the veteran or, ultimately, being stuck with the final year of Rozier's current contract.

Only time will tell if the two parties can agree to the buyout, but with more and more young talent entering the NBA each and every season, it's easy to see why Rozier doesn't believe there will be a spot for him if he's moved on by the Heat this offseason.
